Enfolding (Carrara)

What is the memory of a statue? If it could, would it dream of movement? Ghosts made solid from a distant past / heavy marble, cold bronze metal, the weight of empires now code and fluid, give them an impossible, liquid life /  A perpetual, mesmerizing ritual, enfolding and unfurling, a memory replayed, or a spirit unable to rest / rituals of care and transition, tender swaddling or to bind and constrain, entrapment by history, tradition, or fate / a christening gown or a funeral shroud / lament and reverence, something precious also lost or broken / sensory paradox, the static legacy of classical sculpture to a dynamic, living entity, a new form that is ancient / the permanence of sculpture rendered fleeting and fluid / we can make even mountains appear to flow like water, yet still we search for something solid to hold.
